Hi! I’m Samantha (or as my close friends call me, Sam)!
I am a Jesus Follower. Wife to Rustin. Mom to two beautiful girls. Born and raised Texan (therefore Dallas Cowboys fan). Writer. DIY-er motivated by cheapness. Fashion (for normal people) lover. Fan of being real (sometimes too real).
I am honored you have taken the time to visit my small space on the Internet. There is so much negativity out there, I wanted to create a place where people could hopefully leave feeling encouraged. There are a few main categories for my posts. Let me tell you what to expect in each…
Musings – Writing is a part of me. I used to write stories for fun in elementary school and ask my teachers to read them to the class (not kidding). I HAVE to write. This is where I will post my thoughts on life and the Lord. It is also where I will write about my thoughts on motherhood. After I had my first child and my eyes were opened to the mommy wars and mommy guilt, it became a passion of mine to reach out to other moms and hopefully, through my writing, let them know that they’re not the only ones struggling. They’re not the only ones who don’t have it all together. So maybe I reveal warts and imperfections of mine, that’s ok as long as it helps someone else.
DIY – I still can’t really believe this is one. I never thought of myself as “craftsy,” but after my first daughter was born and I decided to stay home, I realized I wanted to update and decorate my house, but I couldn’t afford it. But I could do it myself. So I utilized Pinterest and YouTube and figured it out. Here you will find my successes and maybe a few failures.
Fashion/Beauty – This is not your typical fashion blog with perfectly edited pictures of me with full hair and makeup posing at some exotic location like the beaches in Maldives in a Dior outfit that costs $3,000. I’m not going to the Met gala, I’m going to pick my daughter up from preschool. It will be stuff from normal stores and most of the pictures will be of my clothes on the floor because I more than likely haven’t brushed my teeth yet and don’t want to be photographed. My dad has always told me I have champagne taste on a beer budget, and that is reflected in my style choices (stuff that looks designer at half the price). I’m also into finding things that allow me to not look homeless even though I haven’t washed my hair in five days, so I plan to share a few of my beauty faves as well.
I often have people ask me for ideas on making an additional income while staying home with kids, and I am so happy to say that I have found something! If you’d like to learn more, check out my video. (I have a special “video bomber” in it!)
My prayer is that God uses this site to encourage others for His glory. If you have any questions I would love to answer them! Just shoot me an email – thelilacdoor (at) gmail (dot) com
